I am an artist who values family, fun,
and living a healthy and loving life.
- After years of meanderings, having a life, a family, and a teaching career, I have finally settled down to paint. I took my first oil painting workshop and did my "first ever" oil painting in June of 2010. Karin Jurick taught that class and I got hooked. Her influence is evident in some of my work. My art education has been a cornucopia of workshops, college classes, reading, and a ton of practice. I have always loved to draw and that has helped me with composition and getting an image to look like what it represents, but there are so many qualities to creating beautiful art and I feel like I have just scratched the surface. This is good because I know I will continue to grow, learn and improve until the day I can’t lift my wrist! My family has been a good source of models for me. I paint mostly alla prima, both from photos and from life. I dabble in landscapes, still lifes, animal portraits and pretty much anything that excites me, along with my favorites, figurative work. I especially like doing commissions that are meaningful to someone else. Having a piece of handmade art is really a treasure and every time you look at it, it should speak to you of the things you value and believe. That is one of the many open ended thoughts I have and share on my newsletter and blog, "Figuratively Speaking." I hope you will check them out, and enjoy looking at my paintings.
